We woke up around 10am again. We had planned to get up earlier and go to Normanie for the fancier breakfast, but failed. Oh well…vacation. We did head up to Mermaid Grill and I found the omelette station that I missed yesterday. I got a tomato omelette and some bacon. The omelette was absolutely delicious and I plan to get a few more of these during the cruise. I was quite happy that we missed the other restaurant, as the omelette was that good. After that, we headed up to deck 10 and found some lounge chairs to relax on and spent the new few hours there, reading and drinking iced tea. Cin went to Daniel's Steakhouse for a cooking demonstration, which she seemed to enjoy. I went down the waterside (yes, there is a waterside on the ship and yes, it is actually a lot of fun and you can get going pretty fast on it) twice and enjoyed that quite a bit.
A little about drinks on the cruise. As mentioned, alcohol costs and it is pretty expensive. They do have draft beer that is $5.25 per glass (Heineken and Amstel Light are the two offered) and bottled beer is available that is variable in pricing. The selection of bottled beer is actually pretty good and they have some of my favorite such as Stella Artois and Grolsch. Soda also costs, but you can buy a soda card which will allow unlimited soda during the cruise. If you're good with water, juice, and iced tea, you can drink all you want for free at any time. As both Cin and I are major iced tea drinkers, this works really well for us.
After that, we headed down to Mermaid Grill for lunch and got some decent food and then headed to the spin class in the gym. This was quite a bit different than the ones we are used to back home and I found it very challenging...the focus is absolutely on general fitness and not cycling, as the ones we do at home generally are. Then Cin stayed on for another abs class and I went back to the cabin to shower and get ready for dinner. Cin came back after a while and did the same…more formal attire today, as we had dinner reservations at Daniel's Steakhouse, the high-end restaurant on the ship (reservations only and there is a fee of $30 per person for dinner here). Daniel's was very nice. For the $30 per person extra fee, you get a really good five course meal, on the caliber of a Ruth's Chris or other similar level steakhouse. We split a bottle of Riesling and after we ordered, they brought out free appetizers, where I got a steak tartar that was delicious and Cin got some creamy thing that was also good. Over the course of dinner, I got lobster bisque soup, tomato salad, broccoli, and a porterhouse steak, finishing up with some sorbet. Cin really enjoyed her meal as well, which included a tableside-prepared Caesar salad and filet mignon. Delicious.
After dinner, we went to the comedy show, which was done by a comedian who had cerebral palsy. That was interesting and he used his condition as the subject of many of the jokes. He was quite funny and we enjoyed the show a lot. After that, off to bed…first excursion tomorrow!
