9 August 2010: Carnival Pride; somewhere in the Atlantic

We woke up around 10am. Ahhh, vacation. We headed up to the Mermaid Grill and had some breakfast, which was pretty good but not amazing. We then went down to bingo, which was fun but we lost early and it did not last too long. Oh well. From there, off to the casino for roulette! Cin played on $20 for 45min or so and I played on 20min for only about 5min. Oh well. We then went up on the Lido deck for sunbathing and reading for a while, which was nice and relaxing. Right now I am reading Spook Country by William Gibson, which is really good. After that, off to the room to clean up and to the Normandie Dining Room (the room where we eat dinner, the more formal of the dining options) for lunch. I had a generic salad and spaghetti, both of which were pretty good, and then stole some of Cin's chocolate cake for dessert, which was excellent. After that, Cin took a nap and I went down for some pizza (to supplement our lunch :)) and the casino for a bit, and then we tried to lie out some more but it started to rain, which was disappointing.

After that, Cin went to the gym for an abs class and I ran on the treadmill for a while (six miles). The treadmills face the front of the boat, which was cool. It is somewhat odd to run on these as the ship rocks back and forth slightly and that makes running on the treadmills quite a bit more difficult and strange. After that, back to our cabin for a shower and then we dressed up for the Captain's Celebration. This was elegant dress, where Cin put on a dress and me a suit complete with bow tie (Bow ties are cool). We mingled in the main bar/atrium and got our pictures taken in front of a number of different backdrops, including one on the grand staircase with the entire travel group. We got stuck in lines for these and did not get to go up and meet the Captain and the other senior officers, which would have been cool, but oh well. After that, it was off to Normanie for dinner. Tonight I had a strawberry bisque soup (this tasted pretty much like what you would think it would), Caesar salad, prime rib, and a baked potato, all of which were really tasty. For dessert, I had a cherry and ice cream option, which was also good. Cin ended up with spaghetti in a creamy and bacon sauce and an apple dessert, which were also delicious.

After dinner, we got a few more pictures taken and then headed off to the piano bar, where we had a few drinks and listened to the musician, who was really good. He did a great job interacting with the audience and played pretty much everything that was requested. Good times. This bar was not too busy and that's a shame as it was a hugely fun time. After an hour or so there, we headed back to the room and off to sleep, exhausted.
