We had planned to take care of race check-in and then go around to various Disney resorts that we had not been to before to check them out. Yeah...that didn't happen. We got up, cleaned up a bit, and then went down to the Marketplace in the resort (this is a combination store and quick-service food location) to pick up some quick breakfast food. I ended up with a coffee cake that was quite tasty and Cin had a muffin. We walked out to our truck and drove over to Magic Kingdom parking to take care of all of our race stuff...if you are interested in that, check out the Race Report over on Tri,Jeff,Tri!
We did not end up back at the Beach Club until around 3pm and we had planned a 5.15pm dinner reservation. Ah, the greatest part of endurance events...pre-race carb loading. :) We walked the short distance from the Beach Club over to Il Mulino (their webpage is here and their TripAdvisor page is here), an Italian restaurant that we had eaten at when we came down for the Disney Marathon in 2010 that is located in the Swan hotel. Again, the spicy bread in the bread service was a big hit...so delicious. I had a caesar salad (which tasted a bit dry) and Cin the tomato mozzarella, both of which we split, and then I had a pizza and her a gnocchi dish. Pizza has long ago become my go-to food for a pre-race dinner...the combination of carbs, protein, and fat seems to provide good nutrition and fuel for endurance racing for me. We ended dinner with the complimentary shot of limoncello that we remembered from last time. Dinner here was good, but not quite as good as we remembered it. The service was very fast and friendly and the environment nice, but we seem to remember both the service and the food being somewhat better than it was. Nevertheless, the food was good and gave us what we needed for the night before a long race.
We walked back over to the Beach Club (one of the great advantages of the Beach and Yacht Club resorts is that they are within easy walking distance of both the Swan and Dolphin hotels and the Disney Boardwalk, with both Epcot and Hollywood Studios only a slightly longer walk away). We prepared all of our gear for the race, got ourselves mentally calm, and headed off to bed, ready to race Florida Ironman 70.3 the next morning.
