Awesome post Jeff. I often have the same thoughts, I feel for the local businesses but at one point Walmart was a small town shop, they just did things right and grew big. For every major chain, there's a story of a much smaller beginning and you have to respect that. They weren't always business gobbling conglomerates.
You've hit all my favorite places at the beach. But my all time favorite pizza place at O.C. is Oceanside PIzzeria. It's a few blocks over the MD/DE line on Coastal Highway on the right if you are heading towards Delaware.

I also LOVE King Kone Ice Cream. Go there and check out the wall of fame for people who have eaten the "Gorilla Split", 9 scoops of ice cream, 2 bananas plus toppings.

Wow, I loved your photos from Discovery Cove of you and your familyswimming with the dolphins in Orlando. I have been there many times with friends and we agree its a great time.

Bloody Mary's was fun when we went. For dinner they had a wide vareity of fresh seafood laid out to chose from. The assortment of fish we had was great.

Yeah, the "mandatory" random seafood buffets at hotels are a rip-off in general. Eating at island places like Bloody Mary's is a much better deal on those days.

Yeah, the service at most restaurants , especially hotel restaurants, in French Polynesia is really bad.

Everywhere there seems to include 18%+ service charge, which I took to mean that you had already tipped them 18%. I actually like the built-in service charge for the hotels -- that way you don't have to individually tip the bellboy, valet, taxi captain, etc.

Glad you liked Huntington, and you managed to find my favorite place on your very first try.

Canterbury Ales is a nice place with the friendliest staff on earth. I am proud to count many of them as friends.

Next time out try Finnegan's (across the street from Christopher's), Dr. Finley's Publick House (outdoor seafood courtesy of Rockfish) or Off the Wall. That last restaurant is an eclectic fusion joint with a nice outside patio area.
